Students have the option to explore how their interests, values, and skills relate to career fields through taking college-sponsored Career Courses.

The Career Studio is your go-to resource for quick, drop-in career assistance. Whether you need help with your resume, cover letter, job search, or have other career-related questions, our trained Peer Career Coaches are ready to assist. No appointment is necessary—just stop by and get the support you need to move forward confidently in your career journey.

Our office has many Guides and Tips for students to use for their professional development and to aid their career readiness. Please integrate and use these documents as resources when working with students. Some specific examples you might find especially helpful include:

The Center for Career and Professional Success (“Career Success”) is excited to announce the “Partnering with Career Success to Support Your Advisees.” This session is designed to enhance department advisors’ understanding of Career Success in the College of Arts and Sciences and best practices for assisting students in their journey.  Dates and times to be announced.

Benefits of attending the workshop, participants will:

  • Learn how best to make referrals to available resources from Career Success
  • Understand how to incorporate career conversations into advising sessions
  • Learn how to leverage Handshake to assist students in finding opportunities

Did you know you can add a job board widget to your department’s website? This resource is available so students can easily access various professional opportunities that apply directly to their major! The widget will automatically populate with opportunities and positions from Handshake for quick and easy access for students to see what jobs and internships apply to their major.

The Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Success Grant seeks to enhance collaboration between Career Success and College of Arts and Sciences academic departments/centers to:

  • Provide unique, innovative, and targeted graduate student support in the area of career and professional development
  • Expose graduate students to varied non-academic career pathways that shape their personal and professional growth towards a meaningful and fulfilling life.

The Center for Career and Professional Success works in close collaboration with the departments and centers that comprise The Ohio State University’s College of Arts and Sciences to ensure that every student is prepared to design their lifetime of opportunity. The Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Student Success Grant seeks to expand collaboration between Career Success and academic departments/centers to provide targeted student support in either of the following areas:

  • Access to training programs that support development of The Buckeye Advantage readiness competencies
  • Exploration of career pathways linked to undergraduate degrees
  • Expansion of experiential learning opportunities
  • Address financial hurdles tied to participation in a required internship or integrated elective
  • Engagement of alumni or industry professionals in career focused department events

Handshake is the access portal for Ohio State Arts and Sciences students and recent graduates to connect with employers and internship sites in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors that are interested in recruiting Ohio State students.

Are you seeking to connect students to alumni mentors? Career Success, in collaboration with the Arts and Sciences Alumni Society Board, has developed a comprehensive mentoring experience designed to enrich the student experience while keeping your alumni active and engaged with the college and your department.

The Arts and Sciences Center for Career and Professional Success works closely with many offices and centers around Ohio State’s campus. In addition to Career Success, you may find the following offices helpful and as a resource for your department and students for professional development:

Collaborate with us to bring career development into your curriculum and student organizations. Our services include dynamic, interactive workshops and the option for Career Success presence—where our team can actively participate in your events, career fairs, panel discussions, and other activities, providing tailored support and expertise.

An interactive session designed to educate students on the various services and resources available through Career Success.  This session will challenge them to identify opportunities to engage with Career Success services and resources in support of their own career development. 

Designed to help students understand resume writing fundamentals, including the purpose of a resume and its essential elements. Students will put their new knowledge to practice by analyzing example resumes. They will also learn about resources and tools to aid in their resume writing.

Will equip participants with the skills to craft compelling cover letters. Students will learn the purpose of a cover letter, its essential elements, and how to tailor it effectively. Students will analyze an example cover letter and learn about resources and tools to support their cover letter writing.

 

Will provide participants with a solid foundation in networking.  Students will understand the importance of networking, master the art of the elevator pitch, and begin crafting their own effective pitches. The workshop will also introduce valuable resources and tools to support future networking.

Designed to help students understand the NACE Career Readiness Competencies, their significance to employers, and strategies to strengthen and tailor them to their individual career goals.  Students will have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge to craft compelling STAR stories.

(6-8 weeks advance notice required) 

Partners may request custom workshops based on the career development needs of their students.  A consultation appointment will be conducted to determine the learning objectives and ensure Career Success has the requisite capacity and expertise to meet the goals of the workshop.
